So crazy! Can only imagine this is not good for these stray pups..
Untreated waste being dumped into a polluted river in Mumbai is what seems to be the blame. More specifically, a factory making detergents is believed to have released dye which caused the dogs fur to change color. As of 2016, the pollution levels are 13 times the safe limit!!! A local animal protection group filed a complaint, hoping to see the water be cleaned up since these poor stray pups frequent the Kasadi river.
DailyMail: Animal protection officers are now urging local officials to act on companies dumping waste in the river after an increase in reports of blue dogs.
"It was shocking to see how the dog's white fur had turned completely blue," animal protection officer Arati Chauhan said.
A complaint has now been registered with the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) saying that animals in the area are suffering as a result of the waste.
MPCB officials have since replied saying they are investigating.
A spokesman said:
"Allowing the discharge of dye into any water body is illegal. We will take action against the polluters as they are destroying the environment. We have directed our sub-regional officer to investigate."
