OMG! This is awful! The world's toughest race is the Ultra Marathon Barkley- 100 mile race. It takes place in the roughest terrains of Tennessee and consists of 5 x 20 mile loops that must be completed in 60 hours or less. Since 1986, only 14 people have EVER finished the Barkley until now.
The race has no specific starting time so can basically take place anytime in the middle of the night or whenever they choose. An horn is blown to signal one hour till start time then once this guy lights a cigarette the race begins. During the race the runners have to collect specific pages from books in various locations to be sure they are following the course. They are also given maps at the start so no time to rehearse or plan their route.
Gary Robbins, was 1 of 2 men to finish this years race. He did complete the race and did collect the pages from the books but ended up showing up on the wrong side of the finish line. He was mumbling "pages" just before he collapsed to the ground. He made a wrong turn somewhere and although he finished the race with all pages he was disqualified....plus he was 6 seconds over the 60 hour time limit!! Watch both videos!! CAN YOU IMAGINE!!! WORSE DAY EVER!!! 100 miles....Only 15 men have completed this race EVER...He did finish but 6 seconds late and made 1 wrong turn at Albuquerque! AYAYAY...Someone buy this guy a beer and give him a massage!
