Mural Goes Viral by Confusing Kurt Cobain with David Spade

A lot of great artists get memorialized in murals, people like Tupac, David Bowie, The Notorious B.I.G., Prince, Lemmy to name a few.

Late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain has been similarly memorialized, as well. So it comes as no surprise that an artist in Austria's largest city, Linz, would create a similar tribute.

The problem is whoever is responsible for the purported Cobain mural in Linz did not paint the iconic late Nirvana frontman. That artist painted comedian and actor David Spade.

Spade and Cobain have probably never been compared to one another before, though now that we think about it they do have some similar features—their blond hair, facial hair and angular features.

That said, this mural wasn't a genuine mistake; it was a hilarious troll job and publicity stunt by local graffiti artist Lushlux that eventually made it to Spade himself, who shared the photo off which the painting was based to all but dispel any remaining speculation that it was a genuine attempt at painting Cobain.

Lushlux later Tweeted a photo of a local news broadcast, proving that the artist knows who Spade is and is familiar with Spade's comedy, calling him a "gay icon," a reference to Spade's stand-up act.
