15-Year-Old Girl Suddenly Dies, Then Family Calls Out The Culprits

In June 2017, Sadie L. Riggs of Bedford, Pennsylvania, killed herself by hanging. She was only 15 years old.

Sadie was raised by her aunt, Sarah, but her dad, stepmother, and birth mother were involved in her life. At first, Sadie was so excited to go to high school — but things went horribly wrong for the young and enthusiastic teen.

She faced constant bullying by classmates who made her feel worthless. Ultimately, her loved ones say an incident at school made things even worse.

The more time that passed, the more troubled she became. Sadie hoped behavioral counseling and medication would help.

But then came the tragedy.

According to BullyingStatistics.org:

“…suicide is the third leading cause of death among young people, resulting in about 4,400 deaths per year. For every suicide among young people, there are at least 100 suicide attempts. Over 14 percent of high school students have considered suicide, and almost 7 percent have attempted it.”

In an effort to debunk rumors surrounding Sadie’s death, her heartbroken family decided to make her obituary as blunt and honest as possible. It directly addressed the bullies who pushed Sadie to the brink:

“To all the bullies out there, I just want you to know that as much as we despise your actions, never, ever do we wish for you to feel the paralyzing pain that engulfs our bodies, a pain so severe that it makes the simple act of breathing difficult or the guilt that leaves us wondering what we could have done differently — or that struggle to remember the last words we spoke.”

In lieu of flowers, family members asked people to be kind to one another.
